Turkey is situated at a
regional crossroads of strategic importance:
the Balkans, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle
East and Eastern Mediterranean; its
territory is a transit route for trade and
transport in goods and energy. Turkey's
unique location dictates that it will
continue to serve as the economic bridge
between East and West. The Turkish economy
is already one of the 20 largest in the
world, and as it continues to grow rapidly
it will provide sustainable economic
leadership in its region. The anticipated
accession to the EU is accelerating the flow
of capital into Turkey, accompanied by joint
ventures, mergers, and acquisitions. There
will be many new opportunities for
cross-border businesses.
Founded in 1984 as Turkey's first private,
non-profit university, Bilkent
University has quickly established
itself as a major center for research and
teaching, attracting world-renowned scholars
to its faculty. The language of instruction
is English. Bilkent's large, modern,
residential campus is situated within
Turkey's young and vibrant capital city,
Ankara. The city, located
on the high Anatolian plain, is the hub of
governmental activities for all of Turkey
and, as host to embassies and a variety of
international organizations, is a gateway to
the rest of the world. Our campus is a
20-minute ride away from the center of
Ankara, and there is shuttle bus service
between the city and the university. You can
buy the latest European fashions in Ankara's
malls and shopping districts, or browse for
antiques and handicrafts in the old city
with its historic sites and museums.
Ankara's numerous bars, clubs and
restaurants offer lively entertainment, and
above all, the chance to sample Turkey 's
delicious and varied cuisine. While here,
you can also visit coastal resort areas like
Antalya, archaeological sites like Ephesus,
and, of course, Istanbul, one of the world's
great cities. Ankara, as Turkey 's centrally
located capital, is a transport hub with
good connections both by air and by bus to
the rest of the country.
